University Consortium of ALMA-Taiwan (UCAT)

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is the largest ground-based astronomical project ever built. With the combined power of unprecedented sensitivity, angular and spectral resolution, frequency coverage, and imaging fidelity, ALMA is a general purpose instrument for research in all field of astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology. With the funding support from Academia Sinica (AS) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan joined the ALMA project in 2005 and constitutes the ALMA-Taiwan (ALMA-T) Project. The ALMA-T consists of two principal groups: Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA) and University Consortium of ALMA-T (UCAT). By conjoining seven major universities in radio astronomy, UCAT was established in 2007 with its primary mission to prepare and promote ALMA sciences.

The UCAT Center for ALMA Science Advancement (tuCASA)

The key to the success of ALMA-T is to successfully foster future generations of scientists and engineers at universities. To achieve this goal, comprehensive user support at the university level is essential. Hence, the UCAT center for ALMA Science Advancement (tuCASA) is established to support ALMA sciences and, more fundamentally, to expend the ALMA user community in Taiwan for the best ALMA sciences.
